About Myself
My name is Kenny Moens. I'm born in 1983 in a place called Boom, which is located in province of Antwerp in Belgium. The first 20 years of my life I lived in Willebroek, after which I moved to the countryside town of Houtvenne.
On the education level I studied at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) between 2001 and 2005. In 2005 I graduated as Master of Science in Applied Computer Science.
After my graduation I started working as temporary workforce at Siemens Communication in Herentals, Belgium. During my years at this company, the company changed from Siemens Communications to Siemens Networks to Nokia Siemens Networks and quite recently the R&D department (for which I work) was outsourced to Devoteam Telecom and Media. Next to this, I stopped working as a temporary force and became a consultant for Nonillion. Later on, I switched Nonillion for Devoteam Telecom and Media itself.
My spare time consists of two major parts: aviation and cycling. Many years ago I got addicted to aviation. More specifically how the complete system of flying works, from pilots flying the aircraft till air traffic control. I mainly exercise this hobby in a virtual fashion by means of Microsoft Flight Simulator on a network called International Virtual Aviation Organisation.
My second hobby consists of cycling. Until 2004 I didn't do any sport at all, during my last year at university I thought it was finally time to do some sports. Thanks to a friend at university who cycled much at that time, I started cycling too, with success. Lately, in 2009, I joined a cycling club called Tieltse Wielervrienden.
Additionally I love board games. Especially the longer variants like War of the Ring, Arkam Horror, World of Warcraft, Tide of Iron and so on. However I also like the shorter games like Carcassonne, Catan and much more. I play these board games usually in the board game club which originated from my work: Het Geel Pionneke.
About 'functor'
A lot of people keep asking me the same question: 'What does functor mean?'. Well, several years ago I had to decide for a domain name. My main goal? Not to use my name itself and make it somehow original. First idea? foobar.be, but that one was taken... After long thinking I came up with 'functor.be'. A functor is actually the shorthand for a function object, a technique which I find extremely useful in object-oriented programming :-)
